To make working with Microsoft Virtual PCs (VPC) easier, you can convert backups (*.omg) into virtual drives (*.vhd/*.vhdx files). The converted image can be integrated as a virtual drive on the VPC without having to install O&O DiskImage there.
Use VHD/VHDX files
Images converted with O&O DiskImage can be started in situations where your computer no longer starts. Converted *.vhd/*.vhdx files can be run as virtual machines.
You can mount a *.vhd/*.vhdx file as an additional drive with Windows 8.1/10/11. The *.vhd/*.vhdx file can contain any number of partitions.
To verify that your backup is valid and can be restored as a bootable operating system, you can boot and test your system in a converted *.vhd/*.vhdx file.
The following options cannot be selected for a VHD/VHDX file: Compression, Encryption and Splitting. Furthermore, only the backup methods "Only used sectors" or "Forensic" are available.
Of importance
A file backup cannot be converted to a *.vhd/*.vhdx file.
Any changes you make to a started or mounted *.vhd/*.vhdx file will also be saved within it. If you start your system from a *.vhd/*.vhdx file and make changes to data that are not included in the backup, these changes will affect your current system.
In order to boot from a converted *.vhd/*.vhdx file, it must contain the following:
• The system partition of the same computer. You cannot use the *.vhd/*.vhdx file to start another computer.
• Windows 8.1 or newer operating system.
A VHD/VHDX file can contain a maximum of one data medium/"disk". Multiple disks cannot be converted into one VHD/VHDX file.
O&O DiskImage cannot convert *.omg files that contain dynamic partitions that are located on multiple drives (dynamic partitions of the "spanned" or "mirrored" type).
