Getting started

Getting Started

  • The installation: No installation necessary, the program starts immediately.
  • Starting the analysis: Open O&O DiskStat. After launching, you have the option to select the drive you want to analyze. Select the appropriate drive from the list and click Analyze.
  • View analysis results: As soon as the analysis is complete, the results are presented to you in a clear diagram. You can identify the top consumers of storage space and see how much storage space they are taking up.
  • Free up disk space: If you find that certain files or folders are taking up too much disk space, you can take steps to free up disk space. You have the option to delete, move or compress files.
  • Use filters: O&O DiskStat offers various filter options with which you can restrict the results displayed to specific file types or folders. For example, you can filter only for music files or temporary files to keep track.
  • Track development over time: With O&O DiskStat you can also track the development of storage space usage over time. You can view graphs to see how storage space has changed over time.
  • Additional functions: O&O DiskStat offers additional functions such as exporting and importing analysis files, batch processing of files and directories, and marking files across directory and partition boundaries.
  • Navigation Through Your Computer

In the Treeview, just as in Windows Explorer, you have a general summary of all the folders and subfolders in the drives.

    Analyzing drives

Analyzing your drive lets you see how much disk space individual programs, applications are occupying. The result is displayed in the form of a chart which displays the distribution of disk space. Once an analysis is complete, you can remove no longer needed data from your drive, for example, old or superfluous files.

  • Select a drive in the navigation tree and then click Start analysis in the tool list.
  • Analyzing drives

To analyze a drive, please follow these instructions:

  • Start O&O DiskStat. After startup O&O DiskStat shows a chart displaying used and free space on the selected drive.
  • Select a drive you would like to analyze in the Treeview on the left-hand side.
  • Then click Start analysis in the toolbar.
  • A chart will appear displaying the respective space usage and allocation.

The Status Bar displays a progress bar indicating the status of the analysis.

    Tip:
If you wish to analyze every hard disk, click on My Computer and start the analysis from there. Depending on the size of the disks, this procedure can take several minutes.

    Understanding the chart

The chart displays files or folders and shows their comparative sizes. Individual sizes are shown in the labels. Smaller files and folders are lumped together and displayed as such. You can set the chart type (tree map, categories, disk space usage) in the toolbar below or under View. Each chart is designed interactively. By clicking on an individual folder in the chart, this folder will then be displayed as a chart itself.

    Tree Map
The tree map in O&O DiskStat gives you a visual representation of the storage space usage on your drives. Here, files and folders are represented in the form of a tree diagram, with the size of each item being proportional to its disk space consumption. This allows you to see at a glance which files or folders are taking up the most space on your hard drive.

    Overview of the Hard Disk

The start screen of O&O DiskStat displays an overview of used and free space on all drives.

    Deleting Superfluous Data

Upon completing an analysis, you can delete selected files and folders:
    1. In the chart, right-click the file or folder you wish to delete.
    2. Select Delete from the context menu.
    3. The selected folder will then be deleted and placed in the Recycle Bin.
